My school has it as part of the curriculum and the girls love it! The girls KNOW it is ridiculous and just a fun read

Good question! I have always hated the Giving Tree, the moral lesson of which seems to be "be a doormat."

I found Shel Silverstein's children's books in general to be part brilliant and part downright disturbing.

I'm glad "Love You Forever" got fixed but let's be real, it was weird before her son moved out. She held a teenage boy and he kept sleeping? And she wasn't concerned that maybe for example, he had decided to sleep naked, or he was awake and doing something private?

It doesn't hold up as a realistic story, but it makes sense to little kids.

Ohh yes, I always found Shel Silverstein's books disturbing.

And I totally agree that the mother in "I Love You Forever" has major boundary issues (but I did cry when I read it).

Roald Dahl is also pretty disturbing.

The first time I read it, my first reaction was "what type of idiot mother picks up a sleeping toddler to rock him".
