I found Shel Silverstein's children's books in general to be part brilliant and part downright disturbing.

It doesn't hold up as a realistic story, but it makes sense to little kids.

Ohh yes, I always found Shel Silverstein's books disturbing.
And I totally agree that the mother in "I Love You Forever" has major boundary issues (but I did cry when I read it).

The first time I read it, my first reaction was "what type of idiot mother picks up a sleeping toddler to rock him".
