For those whose 3 year olds sleep 12 hours at night , do they nap during the day?

I think most kids stop napping between two and three irrelevant of how much they sleep at night. You know it's time to cut back on the naps when it makes them grouchier instead of happier.

My 3 year old sleeps 11 hours overnight (9pm-8am) and still definitely needs a solid nap (1:30-4).

My 9 year old goes to bed around 9 but many nights he’s up till 10 because older kids are noisy. (I guess that’s what happens with the youngest)… he wakes up between 7-8am. Every once in a while I have to wake him.
11 year old doesn’t need much sleep and keeps everyone up! Sleep is usually from 11:30-8
14 year old really needs sleep but is kept up by 11 year old
16 year old- Probably sleeps from 2am-7:30am 😟

Personally a big believer in putting a small family to bed later if they can still get enough sleep so that you can spend time with them after work.
This thread has been comforting to me knowing that I'm not the only one who puts the kids to bed after 7:30. My kids are happy and healthy just the same.

If it was me, I would move everything up an hour
sleep: 8 pm - 7 am, nap: 12:30 - 2:30
Maybe I would even wake up child at 2, so child could go to sleep 7-7:30.
But everyone does what works for them.

When my oldest was 7, bedtime was 7:30. Now I have a house full of teenagers, the youngest is 7 and I'm lucky if he's in bed at 9, but I doubt he falls asleep before 10. Wakes up at 7am.

When you have teens, bedtime for younger ones goes out the window.

Thank you for this validation. It's not like I haven't tried, it's just completely futile. He stays awake in bed waiting for his big brothers to come in.

5&7 yr old -we aim for 7, but usually more like 7:15 ready or bed, and at 7:30 I shut their light. The 7 year old doesn't fall asleep for at least a half hour, though. They wake up about 5:30/6.

I just couldn't function, I don't know how you function. I stayed in bed until 10am this morning. Kids are 0,2,4,6. My 2 year old woke up shortly before that because we got home late from Shabbos. During the week I wake up after 8.

My oldest did. He could sleep 12 hours at night (usually 6:30-6:30) and still take a nap during the day (anywhere from 1-2.5 hrs!) until he was about 3.5 years old, and occasionally even after that.

My kids ages 18 months, 3 and 4 go to bed at 6 and wake up between 6/7. My baby still takes a real nap every day, my big kids have quite time but only sleep if they are not feeling well.

Waking up at 5:30 is insane!!!
I would put the kids to bed later each night until their bodies eventually learn to sleep later.

Well, luckily he can’t read a clock yet so as long as he gets enough sleep he’s happy.
The later schedule works for us for a couple of reasons. One, my husband doesn’t get home from work until 7 and we like to have a sit down dinner as a family. Also, my three year old really needs a nap still, but he doesn’t get home from playgroup until 1pm. It seems like there’s this idea that children must go to bed and wake up early, but I’m not sure where it comes from and it wouldn’t work for our family.

Every family is on a different schedule. I have a toddler and the rest of my kids are pre teens & teens that go to sleep later. Many times, my toddler goes to sleep around 9.
