It's not really what the women on this site think, although I respect the Imamothers' opinions, it's more the fact of dressing up your Jewish child with a Jewish pure neshama on a Jewish holiday, as an animal that is considered the most non-kosher in the Torah.

Its Purim. Its supposed to be veno hapacha so not sure why a pig costume wouldnt be appropriate for a day like this. Especially considering that the pig costumes are cute and look similar to bunny costumes (at least some of them).

Venahapach hu doesn't mean you throw all standards out the window. It's similarly not proper to dress up as haman or (as someone here once asked) a cossack, nazi or other rasha.

Sounds like it’s very community dependent. Personally I would find it adorable and wouldn’t think twice about it. Also OOT jpf-ish.

Please don't!! A teenager who choses it, whatever but not an innocent little child. The costumes linked above made me want to Puke when I thought of dressing my toddler In It, & I'm planning to dress her up as a puppy.

Haman is a pretty classic costume for Purim, I generally see at least a few each Purim whether in shul or out in the streets. (Not to mention the main food associated with Purim is literally named after him.) The others, I agree with you.

As far as a pig costume...I think it really depends on one's circles. I could see it going over just fine in some, and not so fine in others.

I'm JPF, not Chabad, and live in an OOT community. Would it be weird to put my kid in a pig costume for a theme?

Was that really the best you could come up with?

There's a book they like a lot that features a pig family.

How Would you feel if some other kids see your child on Purim and call her a pig? Do you really want to depict her as the most treif animal there is and the most derogatory term too?

What makes pig the 'most' treif?

Never heard of someone thinking a pig costume wasn't cute because pig can be an insult

They are very little so we're not up to schoolyard taunts.

Definitely not a problem. Just because pig is treif? Hashem still created it.

The Lubavitcher rebbe ztl was very against dressing children in any clothes or pj’s with treif animals on them

Why did you ask about doing it, if you think it’s a good idea and see nothing wrong? It sounds like you made up your mind and want to do it so I’m wondering why even ask?

Pig symbolizes the real opposite of kedusha because it's the only animal that has split hooves but doesn't chew it's cud, symbolizing the character of someone who acts not kosher but tries to prove it is how it looks.
Therefore worse then any other animal.
Also it's usually considered a dirty animal. I wouldn't do it. Hatzlacha in your quest and happy Purim!

OP specifically said she's not chabad, so this is not really relevant for her.

Why not? She's quoting the advice of a holy man. She's not talking about chabad minhag, just the advice of the lubavicher rebbe, known by many as a very holy Jew.

Wow. Comparing hitler to a pig. People have choices. A pig is just an animal.
