Today we do have certain laws, and the law of the land has to be followed -- that's why it's there.

The argument that the original European settlers were colonialist, and therefore we must open our borders completely, is not convincing.

Besides, there are very few people who truly believe that there shouldn't be immigration laws today. The question is usually how strictly they should be enforced.

So, an interesting social experiment just took place in europe. there are open borders here - I can go and live and work anywhere in the EU. People from Poland, hungary etc can also come and live and work in (some) of the EU countries. guess what happened - 1000s of Eastern Europeans moved to Western Europe, worked there for a few years, and guess what - a lot have gone back. they saved up enough money to live a good life in Poland, they know they can always go back to the west if they want or need to. An illegal immiigrant I know, however, is terrified to leave because she will not be able to come back if she wants to.

If no one had work for illegal immigrants they wouldn't bother coming.

There are illegal aliens in the USA who are there because their lives are at risk back home, but they don't meet the criterion for humanitarian immigration. There are illegals who are in the USA because it is very hard to make a living anywhere else. Of course criminals come, and criminals leave.

I really don't like to brand people in that way.

Note I never applauded Wilson for speaking out, I think it was wrong of him to shout out during the speech. That stated, Obama didn't lie as much as dissemble, and Wilson caught him at it.
