This woman was amazing. The news kind of got swallowed up by the bigger stories, but she's someone worth knowing about.
(please, nobody use this thread to say disparaging remarks about others who died this week. Let's just appreciate this person's accomplishments)

wow - I remember her - can't imagine having to deal with that out there in the boondocks ... but she was definitely inspiring to many people with cancer ...

Clarissa thanks for sharing. I didn't even hear that she passed on. They are all too busy with MJ....

She was an amazing woman, especially as she married only three years ago and made a life for herself again, what courage!
Same BTW goes for Farrah Fawcett's courage in battling her illness and making some kind of life for herself as well.
As for others, I prefer not to comment.

Thanks for sharing that information. I remember hearing her story on Oprah, I think or one of the talk shows. She was an amazingly brave woman.
May she rest in peace!

That's right, I read about Dr. Nielsen's death as well. Amazing how she gave herself treatments in Antartica, of all places. Had non-medical staff help her w/ biopsy.
So many losses this week.

I remember reading her story and being floored by her courage. Now here's a person whose loss DOES leave a void in the human condition. The fact that her death didn't rate so much as a single line on a back page in my local paper says a lot--none of it good--about the press in this country, and by extension, about the rest of society.
