Even though my hubby, BH,makes a very nice living, cost of living has skyrocketed.It scares me.

It doesn't say in the article but is it net take-home income or gross income? I don't know exact tax rates in NYC but I guess it's quite high like upper 30% or 40%. If they meant $104k gross the net is below $70m so I suspect it must be net. To get $104k net, gross salary must be $160k. (I hope I'm getting calculations right?) What kind of jobs pay that generously--after all not everyone is lawyers or bankers?
Not to mention this is before tuition...

generally jobs don't pay that much- its owning your own business that makes $$$ if successful B"H.

Middle class also includes elements like personal possessions/ownings, and also a certain level of education.
