My family is making a party/dinner for a "big" birthday this year. I have a menu and the program down pat. Does anyone have any ideas about how to make it (room and tables) look beautiful? or food presentation ideas?
There will be kids so candles are iffy. The tables will be 3 in a ches style with the horizontal table being the head.

you can always put a floating candle in a bowl of water
another center piece idea is pictures of the birthday person on those clip picture stands or frames
making the napkins fancy (in a fan or flower) can also make the table look nice ikea has some really nice large napkins in darker colors I use them on shabbos and it dresses up the whole table even if I just use plain paper plates
