Please be aware that there are those who hold that one may not say nishmas stam at any time. It is reserved for very special times, like Shabbos, YT and times of extreme joy and gratitude. I heard this from a chashuve rav.
That said, I think the idea is to show gratitude to Hashem for what He has given you, and through that be zoche to more goodness.
(This rav suggested saying asher yatzar with kavana for the same effect.)
