Chocolate fountains

I need info on the small kinds you can buy for 50 dollars at walmart, home depot, etc.

I recently read an article about them that said that it is worth the money. You and your guests can dip fruit and pretzels it it but is is a mess to clean up.

I dont mind the money, the work, or the mess, but someone told me she had a difficult time getting it to work. Confused

a question to all posters: what is your favorite thing to dip in chocolate? it has to go on a stick.

I was considering: diff fruits
small squares of marble pound cake
small cookies

SaraG- I am planning my son's upshernish iyh in the summer. I once saw it at a wedding and thought it was the neatest thing.

nicole- do people like bananas dipped in chocolate? that would be easy and cheap too.
I know people like dipped strawberries but I think ill have to skip that one. I just cant imagine scrubbing each one, cutting off the tops, etc.
any more dipping ideas?

and im looking for more nice things to do at/for the upshernish too.

again, I would like to make it in NY but just imagine renting a shul, making all the food, and then having 5 people. Confused

everyone I know goes to the country or on vacation.
so I think I have to make it out of town where I have lots of relatives but no friends. Confused

graham crakers, dried fruits (Mango, craisins) plain bread sticks, pretzels. Try it one time before the actual event. It has the instructions in the box, as well as a recipe. I did choclate chips and TONS of oil in the microwave. (I do not recall exact quantities)

We didn't make a party for our son, we didn't have family and didn't know which friends would show up (it was Marcheshvan/November)..oh, and we had just moved, had a newborn baby girl, no koyach, and no gelt!

He had his hair cut in shul, had his birthday party in playgroup, and we called it a day.

Ah, the ease of the olden days.......

SaraG, many people do that.

now im thinking, that maybe I should save the chocolate fountain idea for a fancier simcha, and buy a sno-cone maker instead. there will be lots of kids there, and the thought of any of them double dipping makes me pretty nauseous.
besides its much cheaper.

mimama- what brand choc fountain did you buy?

GR, it looks great but imho, is a BIG slippery mess (you could avoid that by putting some big cloth underneath I guess) and the double dipping keeps me away too......
