I have 2.5 kilo of red lentils waiting to be used.
Thanks!

Not Raisin but I just made this lentil soup and it came out good:
http://www.greek-recipe.com/mo.....cle41

I used canned crushed tomatoes instead of fresh, and added some oregano. Oh, and fried the onions first.

I make it very rarely - if I do I use the recipe from kbd. It uses mushrooms, onions, lentils and maybe canned tomatoes.

Thanks Raisin and GetReal. Will try them. We have vegetarians quite often for shabbos so I was looking for a recipe.

I also make the red lentil soup from KBD. It's really good.

Split pea soup. I just made some for shabbat and it was delicious.

2 cups split peas soaked for four hours (I only soaked for an hour)
1 onion chopped
1 carrot chopped
1 leek chopped (I used two onions instead)
celery
salt pepper to taste

cook peas with five cups of water for half an hour then add the veggies and season. Continue cooking don't remember how long but at least until the carrots are tender.
The recipe didn't call for it but I mashed the soup with a hand-held blender.
This is super easy yet yummy, satisfying and healthy.
Serve with croƻtons and if you want to break the healthy mode add fried salami or hot dogs as well.

Just about anything from the Moosewood Cookbook would do it. Amazing, relatively easy soups, all vegetarian (parve, or at least dairy). The recipes for split pea, lentil and mushroom barley soups are outstanding.

I make a very easy tomato soup it calls for one onion diced that you saute and than pour in 3 cans 46oz each of tomato juice and 2 cups brown rice and water as the rice directs. You bring the soup to a boil and simmer until the rice is cooked season with salt & pepper. I am very often to lazyto even chop an onion or am making for picky eaters who will not eat onion so I omit and its fine the soup freezes great or youcan make less it works out to be 2/3cup rice for each can juice. You may sub. white rice I use the brown as its healthier and even those who don't like brown rice in my extended family love it.

This is so very delicious.

2 (10 oz.) cans condensed tomato soup
2 soup cans milk
1/2 teaspoon crushed basil
Parmesan cheese

Combine soup, milk and basil in medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat; reduce heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes.
Serve with cheese. (You can use regular shredded cheese as well. Sprinkle it over hot steaming bowls of soup, and it will melt immediately.)

(Original recipe calls for cheese tortellini as well, but this soup is delicious on its own.)
