DH cut his tongue badly. what should I give him to eat?

My husband bit his tongue hard and cut it (a big cut). He went to a doctor because it was bleeding a lot 2 hours later, and the doctor said it's fine.
That's all he said, though. I googled and saw he should put honey on as a disinfectant/soother.
Any other ideas for a good way to soothe it, and what on earth can he eat besides ice cream?

He might want to stick to liquids, esp. thick ones, for a while; if he bites himself again (since the tongue is prob. swollen & it's easy to bite it again) he'll be in big trouble.
