DH thinks it is unfair to other passengers if a 12 month old cries on the Red Eye. will be traveling w/ 4 kids and the baby might cry, but might not. I think we shouldn't waste a whole day traveling.
Has anyone else given this dillema much thought?

I took the "red eye" when I was single. There were kids on the flight. So what.

If this is the best flight for your family - take it.

Your baby may cry, but most regular "red eye" fliers bring earplugs. If your dh feels like you will be disturbing other passengers and he is still does not want to fly the "red eye" for this reason - bring a box of new earplugs to give out. Very Happy

I think it depends a lot more on how well you handle the red eye than on the kids. Personally, I'm a shmatta for the entire day after taking the red eye! I don't sleep well on planes, so I just kind of doze lightly. My son takes the red eye regularly, and he has the same problem -- the day he arrives is completely wasted.

The worst scenario, IMHO, would be to arrive at your destination with lively, well-rested kids who slept all night -- but be exhausted yourself and wind up needing a long nap. Listen, they call it the "red eye" for a reason! But if you know you're good to go when you arrive, my guess is that your kids will drop off to sleep pretty quickly. The combination of the darkened cabin and the motion usually puts kids to sleep pretty fast.

I hate night flights but they are almost unavoidable flying from ny to europe. when I have taken a baby they usually sleep solidly. I, however am a wreck the next day.

I'm iy"H flying to Israel this summer with 3 kids (one is a baby, other two not too worried about...ha! let's see) and I'm nervous about it but regardless of the time she can cause trouble and make noise, so....

I personally would feel very guilty if my baby woke up 1/2 the plane on a flight. I've had plenty a baby that cried on the flights I took, but they never woke me up since I NEVER sleep on any flight regardless the length or my level of sleep deprivation. If I was sleeping and woken up, I would've probably been pretty annoyed to hear a baby screeching into my ears.
