My child is on concerta which is helping her tremendously. She is also on growth hormone shots bec. she has a growth hormone defficency. The shots are not helping too much. Endoc. advised against stopping the concerta if it is helping her. I'm going to endo. on friday for follow up but I would like to hear from other mommies in similar situations. thank you

My ADHD guy was short until sometime after his Bar Mitzvah. Now, he's on the small side of average, but totally fine.
This concurs with what Wikipedia has to say on the subject:
Quote: | Researchers have also looked into the role of methylphenidate in affecting stature, with some studies finding slight decreases in height acceleration.[52] Other studies indicate height may normalize by adolescence.[53][54] In a 2005 study, only "minimal effects on growth in height and weight were observed" after 2 years of treatment. "No clinically significant effects on vital signs or laboratory test parameters were observed."[55] |
You can (and maybe should) ask some experts for more opinions -- see if your pediatrician can give you the name of a crackerjack psychopharmacologist; but the odds seem to be that you will find better avenues for treating the growth issues than pulling your DD off concerta.

Try Strattera instead. It is the only ADHD medication that isn't a stimulant and therefore shouldn't effect growth.
