he's been at the same weight for almost 2 months now. I'm only nursing 2x a day. he eats all solids all day. I dont think he's hungry. he eats almost every 2 hrs. dont think I could stuff him more. the dr suggested trying food high in fat. I tried yogurt and avocado as part of his daily foods. nothing. not an extra ounce. the dr is a little baffled. he said now to give him cow's milk. he doesnt like it and I dont know what else to try. is it really so bad that hes not gaining anything?

Is he hitting all his milestones?
It's so odd that he's eating and not gaining. Perhaps your dr. can refer you to a specialist for more testing.

my daughter was stuffing her cheeks and not gaining, now she isn't eating but is somehow growing in height, weight its inching up VERY slowly. I think she gained 3 pounds in the last year from breathing air....

Not sure if I'm missing something, but, irrespective of the weight gain, you should ask your doctor if your baby's diet is adequate. Even if your baby was gaining well, usually baby's need more "milk" in their diets to get all the special fats for brain development. Usually it's nursing or infant formula, but sometimes whole cow's milk will be recommended for a child 9 months and up.
Nursing 2x a day seems very little for a child under 1.
One of my children was very large at 4 months, and basically didn't gain any weight until 1 year. Our doctor said that she wasn't concerned because the baby was never under 50%. The doctor did grill me to make sure the baby was nursing at least 6 times per day, though.
Best of luck!

If the child is not gaining weight or growing in height AT ALL, then he should probably be tested for celiac and absorbtion issues, among some other things.
Has he gained anything (a few ounces) or nothing at all?

crunchy, I don't know about the 2x a day. My ds is on solids and his dr claims he is getting enough from two bottles a day (about ten ounces).

if he isn't gaining weight and not growing in height then you need to look into it. if he is growing in height its ok.

OK, so I guess each doctor is different about this. I was just writing from what my doctor told me.

each kid is different. I think I use the same Ped as Fabulous and I was told at that point that my 11 month old (she is 1.5 now) should be drinking 24 ounces. my daughter was eating lots of solids and we came to the conclusion that solids didn't contain enough calories for her.

He was eating about that before solids, maybe a few ounces more some days. That seems like a lot to me to drink plus solids. I don't know. His GI also suggested drastically cutting down on the bottles because by age a year he will be completely off of them (this was at about 7 and a half months, although now he's 9 months kah)

I was having the same issue as the OP, she was nursing a few times a day and night (more than 2) and eating TONS of solids and wasn't gaining weight. we switched her to formula but it didn't help much-in the beginning she didn't drink more than 2 ounces at a time...

24oz.-32oz. is considered the range for only formula feeding. I don't know what you mean about "cutting down the bottles". I always understood that to mean that you don't use a bottle after a year, but you still give "milk" (nursing, formula, cow's milk) in a sippy or straw cup.
So, same food, different delivery system.

Is your child crawling a lot? Maybe he is burning too many calories?

I was about to ask this as well. MY babies are totally not on hte charts, but yet htey eat all day long, I nurse whenever they want until usually they wean themselves abt 18 months, but I also give whole milk (at a year), plus I give them high calorie foods- butter orolive oil on everything avocados daily, ice cream daily, etc. And my babies just don't gain because htey are SUPER active, we ran all tests, and BH all was good- and then we realized this pattern with my newest baby as well.

at one well visit he gained wieght, but not height. then, he gained height, but no weight. when I said no weight, I meant not an ounce. he's 18.2 for the last two months. he's eating plenty. I dont think I could stuff him any more foods. I'm trying to replace some lower calorie foods for higher calorie foods. but its the milk thats concerning me most. hes not nursing well anymore and he refuses the milk. I tried a couple of times, but I'll keep trying. I'm hoping he'll get used to it and sorta start liking it.

Did we discuss infant formula? Was there a reason you haven't tried this?
