My DD is 8 months old and I started her on solids a while back because I felt like she wasn't getting full. She took to the food really nicely but I didn't want to give her too much so as not to lose my milk. About three weeks ago she had a stomach virus and lost her appetite and she only wanted nurse for about a week. Since then she's really not eating nicely. I nurse her quite often but I still feel like she doesn't get enough milk. She'll eat about five spoonfulls of dinner and then be done. How do I know that she's eating enough food?

Let her lead. If you offer her nutritious food she'll eat what she needs--no more and no less. Babies don't have all of our grown-up issues with food Wink Also, it is totally usual for a baby to eat more one day, and less the next, or tons for a couple of days during a growth spurt and then seemingly (to worried mom) next to nothing for a few days. All perfectly normal.
And on last thing: it is very usual for a baby to want nothing but fruit on one day, nothing but dairy on another, nothing but broccoli on a third, etc, etc, etc. If you look at her intake over several days it will all add up to a balanced diet.
So, bottom line, make nutritious food available and let her dictate how much
