If I always put my baby on a blanket on the floor, how will he learn to crawl? Is it normal to put him down without a blanket??

Of course you can put him down without a blanket, as long as the floor is clean. I'm assuming you're talking about an older baby, right? If he's on his belly a blanket isn't making things that much more comfortable anyway- unlike a baby who's lying on his back and would have his head against the floor.

I wouldn't put my baby on the floor without a blanket (4 month old) because he tends to bang his head on the floor when he gets too tired holding his head up. I usually put a mat with a towel under the mat.

Ha. I never used a blanket. First it was that tummy mat but then it was the carpet or not hard floors.

Why do you think that he won't learn to crawl if he's on a blanket?

He tends to bang his head on the floor. When he is on the blanket his feet stick to the blanket so when he tries to crawl, he slides back.

If you're worried about him hitting his head, you can try to get a small, cheap rug to put him on (one with a latex back so it won't slide - like a bath rug).
