The other day when dd was about to do something dangerous I raised my voice to tell her no, that she might get hurt. and she replied with "Don't hit me Mommy!" What do I make of this? We don't ever hit her even a little.

Maybe she thought that's what you meant by " you might get hurt"
Or she has seen friends get patched.

I didn't scream, just raised my voice enough for her to realise the seriousness. but I see your point. the only thing is that dd is just 2.5. where did she get such an idea that upset = hit?

does she go to day care or anywhere where somone might be reaising their voice and hitting her? sounds to me that might be the case.... that somone has gotten mad and then hit her... she probably thought because you were raising your voice that meant a hit was coming id really look into it if she goes to day care especially id be concerned.. you never know.
also does she talk well? ask her directly...

only if they've ever gotten one. it wouldnt enter my childrens minds that I would hit them. I might scream very loud, but they dont have to fear me hitting them.

My kids are like that, due to the abuse of my ex husband.
When I raise my voice, my middle child used to hide in the corner and rock back and forth crying... My daughter would immedately go into defensive, do not hurt me stance. Was not fun, toook alot of therapy to get them out of it.. BH my middle child knows that when mommy raises her voice it's because she's upset...she's not going to hurt him..
My daughter still goes and hides in her closet, but that's better than what was before..

BH yes, but the point is it's coming from somewhere.. Not you, you need to investigate and find out who's patching her.

yea I dont think she gets this out of nowhere - you need to investigate every single person she comes into contact with!
