I am moving and getting a dishwasher which we will IYH use for fleishigs. I have plenty of nice Shabbos things already; what I need is a few dinner plates and soup bowls.
Should I get plain glass………….tinted glass………….plain white…………who knows about these things?

If you'll be drying them in the dishwasher stay away from glass, it makes life a lot easier.

corelle has beautiful square plates. I've seen them at Walmart.

corelle is the greatest. my mother has corelle that's over 30 years old and it still looks brand new. (what's left of it ) My wedding gift dinnerware sits in the china closet and I use my corelle even on shabbos when we have company.

Not only did I not want to spend the $$$ for a set of Corelle, I really only need dinner plates and soup bowls. And Corelle means a certain color right? I don't know what to do about that.....

Oh, we really use our Shabbos china and the matching pieces. It's a dark cream with flowers of blue, purple, pink and green on it.
But I want something rather plain for everyday; not a color. My tablecloth is different colors and it'd be "too much".....
I just wasn't sure if I should go clear glass or not.

I believe corelle comes in plain white also. with a busy tablecloth I'd avoid clear glass b/c the dishes would 'disappear'. I'd go for white or a solid color. OTOH, it seems misguided to buy dishes to match the tablecloth. one usually buys a tablecloth to match the dishes, since the dishes will presumably outlast the tablecloth.

if you just need a few dishes and a few bowls then you might as well just go to marshals and get nice plates, or if you go up to the country in the summer there is ahomegoods next to middletown mall, which has stunning things for not expensive.
and I think you should get plates that are one color that match your tablecloth.

You can buy corelle individually (I.e. only buy what you need.) I got mine in Walmart and it was a 4 piece setting for one person in each box, for a great price. They have great designs too. I hate flowery dishes, and they had so many plain ones to choose from!
