I buy the big packages of yeast. I used to keep it in my fridge till my neighbor told me not to.
This week I opened a new package and my challas came out so good - -I think it was the new yeast.
what's the best way to keep it so it is always that way?
Editing to add a poll for fridge, freezer, room tempurature!
Winner gets to hold my yeast! (and yes it's the granules that come in the air tight brick)

I keep mine in the freezer. I've never had a problem with dough not rising well.

Sorry to be the party pooper here, but I kept mine in the freezer, and after a while I started having trouble with my yeast. Someone told me the fridge was better, and I haven't had any problems since.

I keep my granulated yeast that comes in an air tight brick in a zip lock bag in the freezer.

I keep the instant active yeast (you know, the granules) in a glass jar in the freezer.

I've been keeping the yeast in the freezer for years and never had a problem.
Party on.

I buy the big vacume packed granules, and it says on the package to keep in fridge, I have no problems with it. Every year after Pesach I buy a new pkg. that's how long it lasts me. It's also important to check the expiration date on pkg.

Me, too, literally for years. A two-lb. bag lasts me at least 2 years, and like Maxwell House coffee, it's good to the last drop...err, granule...even when the expiration date is but a dim memory.

No, they're talking about dry active yeast like Fermipan.
I keep mine in the fridge.

I use SAF (the kind you buy in the big brick) and keep it in the freezer, which is what the manufacturer recommends. My current bag is a year old and still works perfectly.
