A seudas Yomtov should be more special than a shabbos seudah.
I really don't like when people make up their own rules. |
If we're going to talk about making up your own rules, I'd be more careful:
Just because Y"T occurs less often than Shabbat does NOT mean that the meals should be better:
Tadir v'sheaino tadir, tadir kodem
Shabbat meals should be the most special.

Tadir v'eino tadir is not about what the food is like. It is about which Torah reading or addition to Birkas Hamazon or bracha in kiddush etc comes first - you can't take a halachic principle and apply it to what you like. Kodem means first, not tastier, more elaborate etc.
YT meals and clothes should be more special than Shabbos - there is a mitzva of simcha on YT, and on Shabbos there isn't this specific mitzva.

Just a clarification of what my mil meant: she doesn't like to serve too much, too heavy etc. food because it makes you tired and it's harder to daven. And since davening on RH is so important, she prefers to keep it light - but she does do things special for YT.

ya know, cccookie, you still gave me what to think abt. I mean, I've been cooking up a storm in all my free time, and I'm wondering if its b/c sometimes, it's easier to physically be busy and not think. Does that make any sense? Maybe I am focusing too much on the cooking and being mamlich Hashem...but instead of making another dish, maybe I should spend 5 minutes doing a cheshbon hanefesh...
