I am thinking of getting a mixer, and I want one that I can use for 5 lb of challah. If you like what you have, can you please give me the exact type/model and where you got it?

Thanks!

Many ppl like the bosch mixer and the magic mill mixer - but have very large bowls that can hold more than a 5lb bag of flour capacity.

Are there specific model names, or just one of each?

Bosch Universal Plus Mixer
this is the one many of my friends have - do a search for it -
some have other goodies - like an added blender...
but tryto look for one that is sold with 2 bowls - some are sold with a metal and a plastic bowl.

I am seeing the Bosch for around $400 and the Magic Mill for around $600. What advantages does the Magic Mill have that make it that much more? Or am I looking at the wrong Magic Mill?

had a basic kitchenAid for many years until I finally outgrew it.

took a poll of my friends and then went in to buy a bosch.

the salesman said, " I can't recommend it, it's been hard to get service for it here"

so I bought the magic Mill and have been super satisfied ever since. I've had to buy a couple of replacement parts (one wore out and the other two seemed to get lost during house moves...) and actually sent the machine in once to have the motor fixed, but it has been a true workhorse and I use it A LOT. I love the beater, it is SO EASY to clean, and handles cakes and challah with ease.

go look. whatever you spend will be an investment for life.

I am very happy with my magic mill. It makes a 5 lb batch of challa dough very easily. I have had it for 2 or 3 years and used it almost every week and had no problems so far.

I work with two men born in Germany and they know which brands to avoid, PM me and I'll ask them.

That said, a regular Kitchen aide will wear out; you need a Magic Mill or similar.

Thanks everyone! I once tried baking challah in a kitchenaid and the motor overheated...not trying that again too fast.

I have heard that the new Bosch's are not what the old ones were. My repair one said that he would not recommend purchasing one.

If you do buy a Bosch do not use the plastic bowl for challah. I burnt out my motor doing that. The metal bowl is the one designed for challah kneading.
