Can I make Beef Stew for Shabbos dinner?
DH says it's not shabbosdik enough. We are having guests, but close friends who don't mind a more casual dinner. For whatever reason I'm not in the mindset to be handling chicken..... It's actually one of the only meals I can imagining actually making and eating right now...
but if it's not nice enough I'll figure something else out....

I do sometimes. If you want to "dress it up" put the stew (after cooking it) in a hollowed out pumpkin, brush pumpkin with oil, and bake for 1-2 hours-till pumpkin is cooked. Serve the whole pumpkin on the table.

I would happily eat beef stew for shabbos. It sounds great to me. My kids on the other hand would have a hard time with Shabbos without chicken soup. If I made both chicken soup and beef stew they would be happy though.

IMHO, beef stew with chunks of beef is more shabbosdik than something made with ground meat or with chicken. I think it's tasty, many people like it, can be prepared beforehand, and warming--all perfect for winter shabbat dinner.

if you use big peices of meat rather then chunks it might look more shabbosdig. Pot roast is basically meat stew just cooked whole when you think about it.
