We're having 4 big boys over for shabbos lunch. Which should I put in the chulent, mock kishke or potato kugel? The kugel would cook only with the chulent because I don't have an oven and I'm not making it on the stove. Which would you prefer?

I've never heard of putting uncooked kugel into the cholent...not sure but I think it would end up goopy. I vote for kishke

People put raw kugel in a pan, and then put the pan into the cholent and cover it so it cooks from the heat of the cholent. I personally never tried it but I hear its very good.
Boys love kishka and potato kugel. So go for both Smile

I've done the raw potato kugel in a pan cooked with the cholent - it's GREAT!

If you are looking for something else, try slicing up hot dogs or sausages.

Or just serve plain deli?

They get sausages all the time and I might put one in the chulent anyway if my dh gives it to me, but no turkey here Sad . My dh gives me the meat for the chulent cuz I have no idea what's what. I know about other food, I just wanted another hot dish, even though it's supposed to be 80 degrees on shabbos Rolling Eyes .

I usually do kishka and chulent eggs also besides the smoked turkey sausages.

You can try this recipe: http://imamother.com/forum/vie.....&
It is really good.
I would do potato kugel, but that is because my family loves potato kugel, especially in the cholent.

I bake the potato kugel first. Then I wrap it in baking paper, and put it in the cooked chulent.

My brother would say, "הסדר לא משנה" - the order doesn't matter!

I ended up doing a potato kugel and it cooked Smile , yay and the kishke balls from shanie5. I like the vegetarian kishke from spice and spirit better. None of it made a difference in the end because our guests hardly ate anything Confused shock . I think my 8 year old ate more than them and he didn't eat that much. Thanks all!!
