Why is the age important (in the torah)?

Why does it always say the age of whoever in the torah. I understand maybe when they got married or died, but why does it have to say that Avraham was x age when he left E"C. Why is it important because everything that's written in the torah is there for a reason?

many times rashi explains how these details help us know how long things took or what was concurrent, etc. your'e right that nothing is included for no reason - we don't know all the ages from the chumash, only those that are necessary for other calculations.
