Is all uncooked, bagged white rice kosher or does it need a hechsher? What if it says "fortified"? My LOR is out of town! Argh.

I'm pretty sure I learned it's fine.
I buy raw rice with a K.

I thought it was pretty funny how quickly another thread was brought up!
You can call the Star K tomorrow and I'm sure they'll tell you about it. 410-484-4110

I don't know about fortified, but I am pretty sure raw rice doesn't need hashgacha

I was wondering the same thing. I bought a 2lb. bag of carolina basmati and didn't bother checking because I know that carolina rice in the brown package is kosher. But when I came home I realized that it doesn't have a hechsher. It's also fortified, whatever that means. What worried me is that the same brand can be certified for one product but not for the other.
