I need to make a big salad for a bunch of people at a reunion-type even. It can be Milchig or Parve. What's the cheapest and easiest salad to make?
TIA!

Other cheap options are:

-any pasta salad
-potato salad
-a variety of cabbage salads/cole slaws

Oh, why didn't I think of that?? JK! Thanks, CM :-)
I guess I picture it more a veg salad bec. I think other people are making pasta salads. So the question is what is the cheapest option for a green leaf salad...caesar salad? Greek salad? other ideas?
Thanks for all the suggestions. Perhaps the trifle idea would be nice.

Angel hair pesto, tricolor and generally pasta salads are cheap filling and easy.
A mixed salad with several dressings on the side.

If you're going lettuce salad, then Caesar is easy and cheapish. Romaine, croutons (homemade is easy is and cheap, using leftover or ends of whatever kind of bread you eat), homemade dressing (may, olive oil, crushed garlic, lemon juice, pepper, and salt) and maybe tomatoes and cucumbers if you want, but not necessary.

EASIEST CHEAPEST SALAD!!
Any mix of veggies, I usually do lettuce (romaine or iceberg, cheapest one I guess )
Tomatoes & cucumbers (but you can add just one, or if you'd like you can add more veggies)
Dressing:
Mayo, Honey, Mustard, Vinegar, Garlic Powder (or fresh crushed), add drop of water to make it a runnier consistency. (I dont have the measurements of it but use your judgment & taste. Most mayo obviously & just add a little at a time to get a good taste.
Topping:
French fried onions - YUMMY! (you could use croutons or any other salad topping if you'd like.)
Cheap, easy, quick!
Enjoy!

pasta salads are probably cheapest. if you're looking to make a green salad, this one is always a hit:
Mushroom salad
romaine lettuce (or shredded cabbage but it makes a less impressive impression)
cherry or grape tomatoes
sliced red onions
sauteed mushrooms- I usually make it with portobello but if you're on a budget, standard mushrooms work nicely too
Topping: the recipe calls for sweet roasted almonds but I tried it once with chinese/ chow mein noodles and it was delicious.
Dressing:
1/2 cup canola oil
1/3 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup ketchup
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
Combine dressing ingredients. Place sauteed mushrooms into the dressing and let marinate at least overnight (it can last in the fridge for at least a couple of weeks). layer the salad in a trifle bowl or a wide shallow bowl.

Thanks e/o for your responses! All great ideas.
Anyone know the recipe that people put on iceberg lettuce with hearts of palm...it's a sweetish red dressing with ketchup, oil, and a few spices? Anyone know amounts?
THANKS!
