My ds is 11 months old and he is not walking yet which is not my concern -- my concern is that when he does walk, either holding on to a wagon or holding my hands, his feet point outward instead of straight ahead. Like a "V" shape.
Will he eventually need special shoes or something? What is that about?

I think it's normal. Remember he is still learning and it's easier to balance with feet pointed out.

Walking with feet pointed out runs in my family. My grandmother, father, a bunch of my siblings and I all walk with our feet pointed out. We never did anything to try to "correct" it, and it doesn't affect my life in any way. So don't worry about it.

I just found out it runs in DH's family too. My sons legs are even pointed out, like his knees go outward along with his feet. I think it will need correction - does anyone know what age I should be seeing a specialist with him and what is usually done to correct it?

My feet are pointed outwards and the leg goes along with it. I was great at ballet because of that, naturally in first position LOL It doesn't negatively affect my life in any way ( except when I used to horse back ride, which killed my knees cuzyoy have to force them to turn inwards). I'm assuming you don't have ballet or horse riding in your sons future plans, so don't worry abbot it!

Why do you think it needs correction? Did other relatives do something to correct this? Talk to your ped.
