Hi all,
I just have to share this recipe with you! it's real simple, delicious and something 'different' for a change.

1/2 bagel
1 egg
oil or butter
salt
1 slice american cheese

In a small frying pan, fry the bagel (flat side down) in some oil or butter until slightly browned. Add some oil/butter if necessary, crack the egg, place the yolk in the center of the bagel & the white around it (make the hole bigger if necessary). Sprinkle egg white part with salt. When almost done, cover with slice of american cheese and cover the pot so the cheese melts. Serve while hot!

Enjoy!

Tip: For this recipe, scrambled eggs, omelets etc. I usually use cooking oil spray to minimize the oil used for frying

I make the same thing with regular bread w/ a hole cut in the middle.
It's sooo good.

I've never heard two people call this dish the same thing!

We also made that as kids.

We called it, "grilled cheese in the frying pan".

She's not talking about grilled cheese. (Yes, there's cheese involved, but this is like an interesting variation of what some people call Rocky Mountain Toast).

if you're talking about my recipe, the recipe asks for a 1/2 bagel. And the white part goes around teh bagel so it touches the frying pan, u don't have to flip it. The yellow part doesn't get cooked - like a soft boiled egg.

I think the egg will run on it's own. You pour it over the bagel hole, and the yolk (if it's in one piece) will snuggle there, and the white will run all around the bagel.

Is the white part spread on the top of the bagel or just around the bagel in the pan?

I do this with bread with a hole cut in it. I lightly butter the bread, fry it then I take it out lightly spray the pan w/ oil spray, put the bread on the opposite side, let brown for a few minutes. Then I add the whole egg - just don't break the yolk - to whole in the middle. I cook it for a few minutes and then flip it over for a few seconds. YUM!!!

Oh I call it egg in a frame, egg in a hole, or egg in a nest.
