This isn't anything major...but I just wanted to know if an almost 3 year old who walks, runs and jumps totally fine still needs sneakers/shoes with better support. She needs a new pair of speakers. She's been wearing athletic sneakers(like running sneakers). Is converse sneakers OK now? Not the high tops...

Thanks!!

Also, there are lots of threads on this topic already. I never bought my DD higher top shoes- the PT she was working with said it was totally unneccesary..
(If I have time after Shabbos I'll try to find you some of those threads)

I'm all for moving past the "first shoes" stage, but from what I've seen, the converse shoes are extraordinarily unsupportive, so I really wouldn't put them on kids who can't verbalize if and where they cause discomfort. Maybe they make some styles more supportive than others, but I haven't seen it.

my older dd (she's 12) has converse sneakers but she wears them as 'casual shoes'. when she has gym or is outside running around, playing basketball or for camp, she wears her nikes.
I dont think I'd put a 3 yo in converse sneakers on a daily basis.

What about these? They're cute, cheap, and a good brand.

My girls did well with Keds when they were young. They make sneakers that are like a sandle-shoe, with a T-strap, and the back comes up to support the ankles. They didn't cost much more than converse-style, and were leather and much better quality.

I think aborigines' kids in Africa never wore high tops, but the can still run around quite well..
