So I just finished jury duty and I found the whole thing sort of fascinating. I was wondering if there are any jobs in court that don't require a degree, or perhaps just some sort of short program - something that you can learn and get trained in on the job? Would love to hear from you if you have more info!

AFAIK, court clerks in NY just need to pass a basic competency test. There were some threads about that last spring (summer? fall? something.) when amothers were going out in droves to take the test.

Yeah, it's too late. I heard 40,000 people showed up for the test, and most probably the ones with college degrees are going to get the few jobs that are actually available.

If you want a spot in the court house, become a court reporter. There are far fewer applicants, and the schooling is only two years -- if you practice every day a minimum of 2 hours each day.

OP here. I'm in NY as most of you have guessed. I don't think court reporter is quite what I had in mind, but thanks for all the responses!

I don't think that a job in the courts is for you.
