My 5 year old son recently started bothering my 3 year old non-stop. When she's not around, he's a totally different person. I don't think he has any reason to be jealous of her. It doesn't seem to me that I give her more attention, as a matter of fact I have more of a soft spot for my son since I can relate to his personality more. It's more of an avoda for me to be patient with the younger sister who he picks on.
He's also very chutzpadik lately and constantly grouchy and contrary. For example this morning when he left the house, I told him, have a wonderful day. He said, you have an icky day! This is very typically like him these days. Is that normal?
I don't think anything's really bothering him at a deep level. He comes home from school in a good mood although he refuses to tell me anything that happened that day. Earlier in the week he came home from a class trip with a big smile on his face and then proceeded to drive his sister and her friend crazy.

Is this just typical 5 year old boy stuff and can I do something about it?

it can be somethink in school thats bothering but dont become an investigator just urge him to tell you if something is bothering him or do the play therapy with him.
or it might be that he sees his sis getting negative attention and thinks that its a better wat of getting attention Wink

kids don't do things just because however we need to think in their shoes or in his 5 yr old head.

how about calling his school to find out if anything unusual is happening there - I.e. is any other child picking on him?

Could it be he's testing limits? Seeing how you'll respond?
