Does the gel manicure really last for two weeks? The places near me only charge twenty dollars.

It costs $25 in our area too, it can last up to a month. It's harder to remove than regular nail polish though.

I've found it lasts at least 2 weeks -- I've had to pay around $40 for it. I liked it very much especially since it is immediately fully hard and dry.
However, please be aware that it ruins your nails. After stopping the gel manicures (even after having it only once), I find that my nails constantly chip and crack and break off at the tips until the whole nail grows out (many months).
I would only consider doing it again for a major simcha with events lasting over a week's period of time and knowing my nails will be non-existent for a long time after.
And regular manicures aren't an option for me at all as I ruin them even before I leave the salon or on my way out (even if I sit 45 minutes to dry first).

Take a look at some Google search results:
Gel Manicure Ruined My Nails
I had seen such reviews but didn't believe they could possibly be true because the gel manicures are all over the place. Well, believe them! You don't see this happen as long as you constantly get the manicures as the gel holds the nail together. But once you stop you see these results.

Gel nails are not healthy for your finger nails one of the reasons being that to take them off you have to soak your nails in a solution and then file the gel off which can hurt and can ruin your nails.
That said they stay on amazing, I did them for my wedding it was great.
$80 Is a rip-off I paid £35 for mine and it lasted til I took them off (10 days). And in England nails are cheaper because you dont have chinese doing it its more like the fancy shmancy salons in manhattan...
