Target has some standard glass wine glasses. They're actually kind of nice. I mean, they won't dress up every day dishes (although wine glasses will dress up anything) but they look very elegant with china and match everything since they're just plain glass.

I use the bed bath and beyond one - set of 12 glasses for around $20 I think.

I use the Mikasa Park Lane stem ware. My local closeout store often has them for a pretty good price ($20 for a box of 4). The base of the stem is thick and solid, and it's pretty too.

Although I must confess, it has always been someone over 20 who has broken one

After my beautiful Waterford crystal broke (adults, not children, interestingly!), I took a page from Judith Martin ("Miss Manners") and started buying goblets and wine glasses at the local dollar store. Dollar Tree in my area stocks the same ones all the time, so I just replenish as needed. They look dusty and unappealing in the store, but wash them with a vinegar rinse after toiveling, and they look every bit as nice as some of the more upscale options out there.
