I took chopped meat out of the freezer and defrosted it in room temp. water on the counter for about 2 hours. The water temp obviously got colder pretty quickly since the meat was frozen. Can I refreeze it if it still cold (and has been cold the whole time)?
Another Q - Are hamburgers better frozen raw and made fresh or can I broil them and then freeze them?

if the meat has defrosted any, I wouldn't chance it - esp. with ground meat.
burgers are usually better freshly broiled, haven't really seen anywhere sell them pre-cooked. You could use the leftover meat for something like chili that can be frozen, though.

I would agree. It's best not to refreeze food, especially raw meat. You could definitely cook it and freeze whatever you cook if you don't want to eat it now.

No! Don't refreeze raw meat, especially ground meat.
You can bake/cook a dish with the meat, and then freeze it. That is safe.

I would refreeze them. I always freeze first, then cook when it's raw. If I freeze cooked food, I hardly ever end up eating it.

Thanks everyone for answering! I'm not sure why, but I was always under the impression that meat and fish are ok to defrost and then refreeze raw - only chicken was the issue.
Either way, I decided to play it safe and made the mixture into hamburgers, cooked them, and then froze. Better to have a little watery hamburger than e-coli, c"v!!!
