My inlaws are being honored at a school dinner and I will be going with DH. I am in my late 20s and want to look "refined" yet also trendy. I also have never been to one of these events before and do not know how other women my age dress for these dinners. I can't just ask my MIL - she has a different sense of what is fashionable than I do.
TIA!

Is it black tie? or just smart?
You can wear a short dress...like an lbd but in a nice color.
You can also wear something more smart casual, black skirt, print top with a belt and black cardigan.
We really need to know what the style of dress will be there. If it is black tie you can go with long gowny style.
Try look in the evening dress section of nordstrom.com saks.com and bloomingdales.com

Thanks for your suggestion, I'm actually not sure if it is black tie or not. If it is black tie than I have no issue finding something appropriate. I guess I will ask DH and then ask again!
We're also OOT, so that probably means less dressy.
