Okay, so I'm stubborn. I tried it again. This time, I kept the crockpot on low. Same results--a bird's nest of burnt kugel that slid out beautifully. I had hedged my bets and cooked a small bit of it before Shabbos in the oven, so I had something to serve. Signed, Do I give up Forever?

It is probably your crockpot. Some of them are just much hotter (even on low than others) especially as they get older. When mine starts to work like that, I usually replace it.
