Dh and I are stuck. I'm due soon IY"H with a boy, and we are just not coming up with anything we both like.
We prefer names that work in all circles, we are just plain frum, do not like modern names. Nothing yiddish either.
Some thoughts we have
Will Eliezer work in EY, or will it just be Eliezer v' hagezer?
Elizar
Nachshon (modern?)
Ezra (does this go in all circles?)
Daniel (dh likes, I don't)
Asher (I like, dh doesn't)
Chaim (dh likes, I don't)
Any more ideas that fit in with what we are thinking?

Never heard of Elizar... if you're not careful it might sound like Eli-tzaar' - G-d's pain??
Why not wait and see what his Parasha is and pick something from that?

Since you are concerned about what fits in what circles, I'll give feedback along those lines.
I'm DL, for what it's worth.
Will Eliezer work in EY, or will it just be Eliezer v' hagezer? -- ***
Elizar -- Elazar maybe? ***
Nachshon (modern?) -- Don't know that this is all so modern.
Ezra (does this go in all circles?) -- ***
Daniel (dh likes, I don't) -- fairly popular in DL circles. Don't know about other communities. Popular with olim of many stripes, since it is an internationally known name.
Asher (I like, dh doesn't)-- Not sure. Not a bad name (my opinion).
Chaim (dh likes, I don't)-- Don't know too many younger people with this name, but I'm sure in more traditional circles it is used.
***= I like it, but I haven't heard it used much in EY, at least in MO/DL circles. If that's important to you, then I'd look elsewhere.
I general, I'd say pick names you and DH like, regardless of what others in your circles think!!!

Yesha- maybe she meant Elazar?
OP- there are a lot of garden-variety names that are really nice. It's easier if you can come up with something significant. When are you due? Names that have to do with the time of year are always nice (for instance, I gave birth close to Pesach and chose a name that is connected with the holiday). Is there a particular quality you are drawn to, that you might want to name based on that? Any other insights into something meaningful to you and DH that can be expressed in a name?

OP
Yes, I was thinking of Elazar, the people I know who have a ds that name have a strong American accent so I guess that's why I misspelled it.
I'm due now. Most of the parsha is Moshe or Aharon (not going to name Korach ).

I think mostly chareidi circles in EY.
Elizar

Yes, pretty MO. I love it.
Quote: | Ezra (does this go in all circles?) |
In EY, pretty much, though not exclusively, Sephardi.
Quote: | Daniel (dh likes, I don't) |
This is popular in all circles - one of the few names which fits in anywhere (along with Yonatan). Actually, because of that it's considered a little modern among chareidim.
Quote: | Asher (I like, dh doesn't) |
Only chareidi really.
is popular in chareidi circles.

We are coming up on the three weeks- Menachem, Nachum, Ezra, Nechemya are appropriate and widely used names. Meir, because it's summer, so lots of light.

Elazar is very populer among charedi circels in EY since Harav Shach passed away and many children were named after him. (Elazar Menachem)
