Just to bring back a point that someone mentioned already somewhere-
I would imagine as these kids grow up, they will be the type of kids who "live" at their friends' houses since their own is disfuntional. You will be doing your nieces and nephews a tremendous chessed by teaching them how to be good guests so that their friends' parents will open their homes to them and not resent them or send them out and tell their kids to never invite them over again. That means setting limits and demonstrating appropriate guest behaviour. Explaining that you don't roam the kitchen (or house!) without permission, if you ask for something and don't finish it, you shouldn't then ask for something else, food isn't free, etc.
