so this shreded potatoes adn meat layered idea, would it work to cook it before shabos, then put it on the hotplate or blech instead of a crockpot.??? I dont have a crockpot...
Shred potatoes. Layer cholent with shredded potato layer on top sprinkled with salt. Do not add egg or water.

I'm not sure how to do it on the plata (I use mine for warming up food), but if you usually cook your cholent on the plata then you can just layer like realeez and put up as usual.
