My uncle is coming in from the States and wants to bring a gift for my DS. Does anyone have ideas of some educational toys for age 3?

* Alphabet magnets
* Legos/Duplo
* Dress up costumes for play fun
* The cardboard box that some fancy-shmancy educational toy comes in.

What DrMom said (especially the box )
Forget "educational" toys and go with imaginative, pretend stuff. Better for social-emotional development. Calculus he can always learn later.

No, I realize that I meant like good developmental things, not something with a million bells and whistles.

Developmentally speaking, pretend-play things are the most valuable. My kids would ask for Playmobil any day of the week. All of them, toddler to teens.
Edited to add: If he likes to build, you can never have to much Lego. I'd stick with the basics.

blocks, lego, puzzles, alphabet magnets, little people and animals, lacing cards/beads, markers/crayons, dress up clothes, play dough, paints, games like memory and zingo or candyland. almost anything that a three yo enjoys doing is educational (screens aside)
