There is a nice amount of rust or something like it, and it's getting all over whatever I iron. How do I clean it? I tried a wet cloth, but it didn't help!

Kosher salt on a brown paperbag. Iron the salt until the gunk is removed.

A dry steel wool does the trick. Just scrub it when the iron is hot. I keep one on the shelf near my iron & clean it often so it doesn't build up. Good luck!

My Rowenta iron came with cleaning wipes, maybe they'll work on any iron. Google Rowenta cleaning wipes

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I tried the steel wool first, since it was the easiest for me, and at first it didn't seem like it was helping, but with some water, patience and a lot of elbow grease, every last drop came off!!!!
