I have a bottle of tomato juice.
I'm not sure if it's meant to drink straight or to add to recipes.
Is this a good thing to drink before a fast?

I wouldn't, tomato juice has a lot of salt in it.

so does gatorade - salt retains water which is good when you are fasting
why not make a tomato soup?

Yes. Because it is salty, tomato juice is good before/after a fast.
Have you noticed people drink it on planes? That's because we get dehydrated there and tomato juice is good, like powerade.

Even though I LOVE tomato juice, I'd say no: because of the salt and because of the acidity, which may cause your stomach to react in a negative manner.
