This can be served with rice, or with soup and potatoes, or with any carbohydrate really. It's best served with rice, making it a complete protein. And it takes 10 minutes to put together.
THIS RECIPE IS DELICIOUS EVEN WITHOUT SALT. This is perfect for people trying to cut down on salt in a painless way.
1 cup lentils
3 cups water
8 oz tomato sauce
1 tbsp vinegar
1/2 tbsp molasses/brown sugar
1 tbsp oil
4 cloves garlic
1/2 cup onions, diced (1 small onion)
1/2 cup green pepper, diced (1 small green bell pepper)
1/2 tsp cumin
1 tbsp chili
Wash lentils and put in pot with water, vinegar and tomato sauce.
Saute garlic, onions, and green pepper in oil.
Meanwhile, add molasses, cumin and chili.
Simmer for 35 min, taste a lentil. When almost ready, add the sauteed vegetables.
Simmer for another 5 min, and ready!
Best served with rice to make a complete protein.
Guaranteed kid favorite.
Edit: If you put in too much of one spice (I dumped half of my chili in today ) take out what you can, then increase the molasses, vinegar, and cumin slightly. It will balance out the flavors. This is a no fail.
