I once has this great recipe for a chocolate volcano cake made with baking soda and vinegar , can't seem to find it- does anyone have it?

Is this what you're looking for (it is very good)?

Moist Chocolate Cake

Source: Family First

1 tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. vinegar
5 eggs
1 ½ cups sugar
1 cup oil
1 tbsp. vanilla sugar
½ cup cocoa
Pinch coffee
¾ cup potato starch

Preheat oven to 350.

In small bowl combine baking soda and vinegar. Set aside.

Place remaining ingredients in mixer. Add vinegar mixture. Beat until well combined. Pour into greased 9 x 13 (or two 9-inch round pans) pan.

Bake 35-40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Chocolate Frosting (optional): (note: I've never made the frosting, the cake doesn't need it)
2 cups confectioner’s sugar
1 stick margarine
1/3 cup cocoa
1 tbsp. vanilla sugar
1/8 cup water

Melt all ingredients together in double boiler. Spread over cooled cake.

what's the special-ness of this cake? Is it extra soft or chocolatey? I have no other recipe that calls for baking soda so I won't buy unless it's worth it?

I don't have the recipe now - its still put away - so I don't know if my recipe is the same. but last year I made a chocolate cake with vinegar and baking soda and it was the most amazing moist delicious cake. It just tastes like regular chocolate cake. Not like some Pesach cake that is supposed to taste like cake. I said it would be the only cake I would make - and then of course I end up making lots of other cakes.

Baking soda isn't expensive and you can use it after Pesach also. I think it is worth it.

It's worth it. This is like a KLP Hershey's chocolate cake. Except it doesn't taste pesachdik.

Aside from baking, there are many uses for baking soda around the house. My favorite use for it is for de-odorizing drains. And it has a long shelf life, as long as it is tightly covered and kept completely dry . I'm actuallly surprised you don't have any recipes that call for it. It's a very common ingredient in cookie recipes.

It doesn't taste like a Pesach cake. It has great flavor and texture. It is certainly worth buying baking soda (which is very cheap) even for just this recipe.

OK, I'm sold. I'm going to buy KLP baking soda and try this cake! If it's as chocolatey as everyone makes it sound, I'm a definite customer.
