Can I send a birthday card to a family member who is an Avel (and still within the shloshim)?

AYLOR--but common sense should tell you that it would be highly inappropriate and disrespectful of the deceased to wish an avel within shloshim happy anything. They're in mourning, get it? They're not SUPPOSED to be happy.
