Im looking to buy a washing machine.
I do not want an HE. I want a simple one that will clean my clothes thoroughly.
I would spend about $500 but its negotiable either way.
I might buy a dryer (electric) as well, but now focusing on the washer now.
So..there are so many reviews and so many conflicting ones. Which are the good ones out there?! The more specific the better for me.

Why don't you want an HE? I got a top-loader HE, and I love it! There is no agitator in the middle. You can override the automatic water settings (HEs usually try to use the minimum amount of water) and I haven't seen any downsides to my previous basic model.
I have an LG - I think this one - http://www.homedepot.com/p/LG-.....cZ21j - it is more than your budget, but you get the idea.
For me the BEST part is that it is HUGE!!! I can wash double the amount I was able to before = less laundry!
