If I am making chicken pot pie with a bottom pie crust, does it need to be pre-baked?
Anyone ever made a chicken pot pie with both bottom and top crust? Seems like a lot just have the top crust.

Definitely pre bake the bottom crust, or it will be a soggy mess.
I find that sometimes the bottom burns anyway, so I prefer it on the top only.

yes I always pre bake the bottom pie crust
and I do put a crust on top

I coat the bottom crust and use a pie bird.

It is a ceramic bird with an open beak that let's the steam come out. The crusts come out crispier.

Ah okay thanks. I don't have one of those clearly- I will just put slits in the top crust which will hopefully help steam get out.

When I make pot pie, I prebake the crust (poke holes with a fork first or it will bubble) and for the top, I use puff pastry dough with egg brushed on top, and I make a few slits before baking it.

It is worth the investment. I paid $6 for mine on sale.
