My son is turning 6 soon and he wants a small birthday party at home with probably 7-8 friends. He is not at all into sports or arts and crafts. He loves science, music and building things. Any suggestions of a good, simple activity to do to keep a bunch of 6 and 7 year olds busy?

Build: have all the guests bring in odds and ends to recycle and build, interesting, cool creations with them ie: a city, park, fire station, etc.

Do you have a backyard or basement where they can build a volcano and make it erupt? Or build a rocket to launch? There are lots of instructions for this kind of thing online.

Thanks for the ideas. It'll be too cold to do anything outside and I don't want a huge mess in the house. Making silly putty would be the perfect activity - I'll have to look that up! My son would love it.
