I'm considering buying a winter coat from LLBean.com, actually one for me and one for DH, and would like to know if others have experience with this brand. How do you like the quality? I know when I was a child the brand was considered one of the top and they had a great warranty, but I know a lot of these things have changed since I was a kid, brands that used to be good now peddle junk or at best make different levels of goods - if you are familiar with LL Bean coats, which are the best? Any idea how they compare to others in similar price range?

Also, do you know how the sizing runs? For example, I know everything I have ever ordered from Lands End has run very large, but very. Is LL Bean true to size, in your experience?

Finally, any savvy shoppers know if they generally have coupons/sales that would be worth waiting for? I searched a bit and there doesn't seem to be one at the moment but I haven't been following them or anything to know if this is something that is likely to happen or not.

Of course it's not the end of the world if I buy it, don't like, and return. But it's a hassle and laying out a bunch of money, the coats are expensive enough that I'm not going to order 5 so I can choose and return the rest. And winter is coming like now. So it would be nice to just get this right and not deal with it anymore, but I do want to get it right because this is the first time in over 10 years I'm getting a coat replacement and I wouldn't mind this one lasting as long.

Any other coat-shopping tips are welcome. I really wanted to just go to a store where I can try things on and feel for myself but it just doesn't seem to be happening so fast and I don't want to get stuck in another winter with my old coat.

In case anyone cares, these are the ones I'm looking at for me:
http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop.....-coat
http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop.....=pprv
http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop.....-long
Trying to decide if the long is too long, or if the 3/4 is too short; all I want is to be WARM... and look good.

For DH:

http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop.....parka
http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop.....ength

The brand is really good. The clothing is high quality. My kids' ski clothes is from there and they hold up well. I pass them down looking brand new. The kids are rough on their winter coats.

The clothes tend to be less form fitted. I fit a 6/8. Often I will take a 10 for tznius reasons. LL Bean 10s hang on me. An 8 is fine and doesn't hug. It is cut larger than a regular 8. I don't have an winter coats but I do have jackets, vests, sweaters. All are a bit looser than normal.

They run specials often. I get emails. I also have an LL Bean credit card. They have a promotion for opening the card. If you are going to make a large purchase it might be worth it. LL Bean also has outlet stores. I purchase my $69.00 LL Bean skirts for under $30 there. I pay for them with certificates I earn from the credit card.
