does a kallah really have to wear a white fluffy dress - when she is a tomboy
I'm a tomboy too - yet I rather like the glory of a wedding gown - her not so much

My daughter wore a white, but very sleek gown. It was not fluffy at all.
She is not a tomboy at all. We just felt it was more modern.
Its quite beautiful!
I'm actually looking to sell it.
Interested? You can PM me.

I like the Village Maiden look, simple little cotton frock, with a looooong obviously fake braided ponytail hanging down, with lots of fake white flowers stuck into it.
That's not gooey at all. It should look quite poor. Bare feet, maybe.
If she is allergic to white, lots of colored gauze or colored illusion netting all over would be dressy.
She can get metallic if she wants, gold threads, gold lame and stuff. Yum.
There are a lot of nice gowns of alllllll sorts on Light In The Box.
If that's complicated, she can go to a fabric store and look around. When she finds a fabric that enchants her, she buys a whole lot of it and just ties it around herself. With something for the head, to drag behind her on the ground, or almost, right off the bolt. In any color. Any color at all.
She might start with the shoes. They don't have to match anything.

How about a black and white gown, or a simple white gown with color accessories like a bow? Or just a color gown... A kallah does not need to wear white, just people expect white.

Try a contrasting belt. I love that look!

Very chassidish wear light pink or light blue. Wearing white as a bride is a fairly new "minhag" for both Jews and non Jews

if she doesn't like frills & fluff why would she wear high heels ... I think we all would laugh

Also a "pop of color" with her shoes may appeal to her.
Such as a blue metallic.

Who exactly? I have never seen any other color than white or cream in very chassidishe circles.

These shoes might interest, and there are lots of others on Light in The Box under "dance shoes ballroom"

I would say, WHATEVER she wears, it should be ankle length.
I confess a prejudice against a street-length dress on a bride. I saw one once, in white; she looked like a nurse and it didn't fly at all. Not a Jew, a long time ago.
Please, long dress.

The rebbishe wear light pink or light green or any tinge of coloring in the fabric - just not white. They hold that wearing white is chikas hagoy.

Really? I think I recall something about white signifying being pure/ clean of aveiros because of Yom Hachuppa, like Yom Kippur? (Everyone else feel free to correct me).
Does she not want to wear a gown at all or just not white? Because she can do cool things with color, google Anne Hathaway's ombré Valentino wedding gown.

re shoes - she can wear sneakers under the dress you will hopefully convince her to wear (that's what I did, it's so long no one could tell!) So she can get her tomboy-ness in there.
I hope you can find a style she likes, there are plenty of straighter styles with less frills. I saw pictures of a not-so-girly kalalh wearing a short white dress to her wedding. There are so many styles out there hopefully she'll feel the way she wants to feel in one of them!
